September 2026-Fall 2027 (link at the bottom for details)
On September 18, 2026 the relics of St Bernadette arrived to the United States at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.. This stop was the first on a journey that will move coast to coast and region by region. The route is divided into 4 regions - East Coast, Central South, Central North, and West Coast. East Coast will be completely in December with final destinations in Florida. Central South begins in January of 2027, the route is being finalized.
First of all, what are relics? Relics are the remains or possessions of holy persons and are divided into three categories. First-class relics consist of the bodily remains of saints and the instruments of Christ’s Passion, such as the True Cross. Second-class relics are personal belongings of saints, such as articles of clothing, or the instruments used in the torture and death of martyrs. Third-class relics are any objects which have come into physical contact with first- or second-class relics. While the Catholic Church does not mandate that we venerate relics the Church has always maintained that veneration of relics is proper, we are giving honor NOT to the relic but to the person it represents.
